As the soft link in the lance plumbing, it copes with chemical contact, vibration and the odd pinch during reassembly. Replace it once it has gone hard, cracked near an end, collapsed, or weeps at a fitting.
Lay the new hose in without twists or tight bends and seat each end fully, then run clean water through and watch for drips before the next load goes in.
