Foam seals lose their spring with age. Once this piece is squashed flat, torn, or stiffened by chemical residue, it stops closing the gap, and grit or spray can work into the mounting.
Take out all of the old foam and clean the mating faces before fitting the new piece, so it sits flat and even around the FPV bracket. Treat it as a replace-on-removal item: any time the bracket comes off, a new piece of foam goes back in.
