Specifications and what it does in the paddock
A drone crew that never sleeps. DJI Dock 3 is a drone-in-a-box: the Matrice 4D series aircraft lives inside, launches on schedule or on demand, flies its mission, lands itself, and recharges in 27 minutes, all controlled from a browser anywhere in the world. No pilot on site, around the clock, in weather from −30°C to 50°C.
Unattended operations, done properly
- Remote everything: launch, fly, land and recharge through DJI FlightHub 2: scheduled missions, automated routes, change detection, live streaming, and a virtual cockpit with AI detection of people and vehicles
- 27-minute charging (15%→95%) with climate-controlled cabin, near-continuous mission cycles
- First DJI dock you can vehicle-mount: bolt it to a ute or trailer, reposition, recalibrate from the cloud, and fly (vehicle stationary during flight)
- Up to 10 km operating radius from the dock, with the DJI O4 Ground Station to carry the signal past the hills, trees and buildings that block the dock's view
Built for the outdoors, permanently
- IP56-rated station operating −30°C to 50°C with compressor air-conditioning heating and cooling the cabin
- Integrated weather station: wind, rainfall and outside-temperature sensors decide when it's safe to fly, alongside a water-immersion sensor and temperature and humidity sensors in the cabin
- Built-in RTK base station and internal + external 1080p security cameras
- 4+ hour backup battery keeps the dock running through a power cut so the aircraft can get back and land. It won't recharge the aircraft or run the air-conditioning until mains power is back
Choose your aircraft
Dock 3 flies the Matrice 4D series only, one aircraft per dock. Pick the sensor set that matches the mission (each is sold with the dock in the kit options above):
- Matrice 4D: triple RGB cameras (20MP wide with mechanical shutter, 48MP medium tele, 48MP tele) with laser rangefinder. The pick for mapping, surveying, and construction monitoring.
- Matrice 4TD: swaps the 20MP mechanical-shutter wide camera for a 48MP low-light one, and adds a 640×512 radiometric thermal camera (super-res to 1280×1024) and NIR auxiliary light. The pick for security patrol, public safety, night operations and asset inspection; DJI rates only the Matrice 4D for mapping without ground control points.
Both aircraft are IP55-rated, fly up to 54 minutes, and can also be flown manually with an RC Plus 2 Enterprise controller.
Who runs docks
- Energy & utilities: automated powerline, substation and solar farm patrols
- Construction & mining: daily progress capture and stockpile monitoring without a site pilot
- Security: perimeter patrol on a schedule, alarm-response launches in seconds
- Agriculture: routine checks of water points, fences, stock and crops across large holdings, which the Farm Monitoring Kit is set up for
- Public safety: vehicle-mounted rapid deployment for emergency response
What the site needs
- Power: a dedicated 230 V circuit (the dock draws up to 800 W) with surge protection and a proper earth, put in by a licensed electrician
- Internet: at least 20 Mbps up and down (DJI recommends 40 Mbps or more), over Ethernet or, where DJI's 4G service is offered, over 4G through a DJI Cellular Dongle 2 with a carrier nano-SIM. The dock needs its connection to take missions, and a flight that loses it mid-task comes home
- A level pad: a concrete base less than 3° off level, open sky above it, a fence around it, and a second landing spot nearby in case the aircraft can't get back into the dock
- A clear signal: hills, tree lines and sheds between the dock and the work area are what the O4 Ground Station is for
- Servicing: DJI asks for a maintenance check every three months on dusty sites, and the anti-ice propellers are replaced at least once a year
FlightHub 2
The dock is run from DJI FlightHub 2 in a web browser: routes, schedules, live video, maps and alerts. Binding the first dock to a new FlightHub 2 organisation unlocks a one-off, three-month allowance of 100 GB of storage, 5,000 livestream minutes and 3,000 mapping images. After that, the free Standard plan has no live view or cloud mapping and only 5 GB of storage, so most docks run on a paid Business or Enterprise plan. FlightHub 2 cloud data is stored in the United States or Germany; FlightHub 2 On-Premises keeps it on your own server.
Flying it legally in Australia
Flying from a dock with nobody watching the aircraft is beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). In Australia that needs a remote operator certificate (ReOC), remote pilots who hold a RePL and have passed CASA's BVLOS exam, and a CASA BVLOS approval, even over your own land: the landholder exclusions only cover flying within sight. CASA says BVLOS approvals take several months, and it is still settling its broad-area BVLOS rules, so talk to us before you order. Night flights also need documented night procedures under the operator's ReOC. The sub 7 kg RePL covers the Matrice 4D and 4TD.

Getting one running
A dock is an installation, not a parcel. The site is first surveyed with a hand-flown Matrice 4 and an RC Plus 2 Enterprise to plan the dock's take-off and landing route. Then the pad, power, earthing and network go in, and the dock is calibrated and bound to FlightHub 2. We quote the site survey, installation and commissioning for your site and help you choose a FlightHub 2 plan. The O4 Ground Station carries the signal where hills, trees or buildings block it, and a Cellular Dongle 2 adds a 4G link where DJI's 4G service is offered. Both come in the Farm Monitoring Kit and can be added to the other Dock 3 options.
