Signs of a failed head gasket include loss of power, hard starting, oil weeping at the head joint, or a puffing sound from the head under load. Always fit a new one when the head comes off, as a used gasket will not reseal reliably. Clean both faces, check the head is flat, and tighten it in the sequence the service manual gives.
The cylinder head locating pins align the head on assembly, and the exhaust valve is worth inspecting while the head is off. This suits the Zongshen engine only: D14000iE units built with a Rato engine take different engine parts, so check the engine label first.
